SOUTH HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
New to the ICSD, Arthur Brown, Jr. will serve as principal of South Hill Elementary School.
Originally from Charleston, South Carolina, Arthur has worked for most of his professional career in the Bronx and Long Island in several roles, including elementary and middle school social studies teacher, instructional coach, school principal, and district administrator.
In his new role, Arthur intends to focus on evaluating South Hill’s systems and structures in addition to building on the school’s successes. He is passionate about pursuing social justice for all and improving mental health.
“One of my initial steps will be to get to know the South Hill community,” Arthur said. “My goals are to become familiar with the school’s culture and curricula and to continue to advance equity. I firmly believe we must always be of service to our community and empower others to do the same.”
In his free time, Arthur loves to travel, bowl, and visit museums and historical sites. He is fluent in Spanish and semi-fluent in German.
NORTHEAST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Julie Humble, who most recently served as associate principal, will serve as principal of Northeast Elementary School
As she transitions into her new role, Ms. Humble feels excited to continue the initiatives that she and Samantha Little began last year. Before coming to Northeast, she served as associate principal at Beverly J. Martin Elementary and has worked as a teacher/administrator in the ICSD since 2003.
Ms. Humble looks forward to engaging more with families and supporting the Northeast community. She expects the staff-developed equity goal - we will be a welcoming school community that honors all identities and voices - to continue to drive change. Ms. Humble also hopes that the student equity team, which was installed last year, will continue to give voice to the hopes, dreams, questions, and concerns of Northeast students.“I want all students to feel that this is their school and they matter.”
Ms. Humble lives in Newfield with her husband and four dogs. Her son, Jacob, attends SUNY Cortland for Healthcare Management. The family loves to be outdoors, camp, and enjoy time by the lake.
CAYUGA HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Aileen Grainger will serve as principal of Cayuga Heights Elementary School.
Ms. Grainger served as associate principal at Enfield Elementary for four years and, prior to that, taught at Caroline Elementary for seven years. She is excited to return to Cayuga Heights where she attended as a student.
Aileen is grateful for the conversations she’s had already with staff and families and hopes they will focus her goals around community, communication, and curriculum this year.
“When I walk into CHES, I see a colorful mural that states ‘seen, heard, and known,’” Aileen said. “As I step into this role, I plan to build relationships and continue the work of creating an educational environment based on these values. I cannot wait for students to come back and bring the building to life.”
This summer, Ms. Grainger finished hiking the highest mountains in New York State to become an Adirondack 46’er, a feat that took her six years to complete. She grew up in Ithaca and now resides in Brooktondale.
